Department of Commerce Announces Departure of Securities Director, Appointment of New Acting Director

[Salt Lake City] — Chris Parker, Executive Director of the Utah Department of Commerce announced the appointment of Jason Sterzer as Acting Director of the Division of Securities. The appointment of Sterzer comes as Thomas A. Brady departs the Division to work in the private sector.

“Tom was a dynamic member of our organization for the last 11 years,” noted Parker. “I greatly appreciated his leadership and vision with our Securities team. His prior service as the department’s Deputy Director and in the Division of Securities have been exemplary. We wish him well in his new law practice.”

Jason Sterzer is Director of the Division of Corporations and Commercial Code, a role he will continue while assuming responsibility as the Acting Director of the Division of Securities. “Jason Sterzer is a credit to our Department. I have the utmost confidence in his leadership skills, securities knowledge, and dedication to public service,” remarked Parker.

About Thomas A. Brady
Thomas A. Brady has served as Securities Division Director for the last 2 years. Prior, he served as Deputy Director of the Department of Commerce to Francine Giani for 5 years, and was with the Utah Division of Securities for 3 years both as a Securities Analyst and a Director of Enforcement. He has been an expert witness in multiple securities cases, been designated as a special prosecutor, and has served as an Administrative Law Judge for various Boards within the Department of Commerce. Brady graduated with a Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law. Brady earned his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He is
married with five children and resides in Centerville, UT.

About Jason Sterzer
Jason Sterzer currently serves as the Director of the Division of Corporations and Commercial Code. Previously, he held positions within the Division of Securities as Securities Examiner and Securities Analyst. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Scienc and earned his Juris Doctor from Southern Illinois University School of Law. While attending law school, he served as Editor of the Journal of Legal Medicine and published several articles which earned him the Taylor and Francis Greatest Impact Award. Sterzer is married with three children and resides in Salt Lake City, Utah.
